Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon (RMUTP) is committed to promoting environmental sustainability through its Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) policy. This initiative is designed to reduce air pollution and support the university’s green objectives.
Encouragement of Non-Motorized Transportation: RMUTP advocates for the use of bicycles and other non-motorized vehicles by providing adequate parking and support facilities. This helps in reducing the dependency on fossil fuels and promotes a healthier mode of transportation.

Support for Electric Vehicles (EVs):

  • EV Charging Stations: To facilitate the adoption of electric vehicles, RMUTP has installed EV charging stations around the campus. These stations are strategically located to encourage faculty, staff, and students to switch to electric vehicles.
  • Reduction in Personal Vehicle Use: The university promotes the use of public transportation among its community members as a preferred alternative to personal vehicle use. This strategy not only supports the ZEV policy but also helps in easing campus traffic and reducing carbon emissions.

Program to limit or decrease the parking area on campus for the last 3 years (from 2021 to 2023)

Reduce the parking area to its limit

RMUTP has strategically decreased the parking spaces available on campus to the maximum possible extent. This limitation is intended to discourage the use of personal vehicles and to mitigate traffic congestion on campus.

Number of Transportation Initiatives to Decrease Private Vehicles on Campus

Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon (RMUTP) has implemented several strategic initiatives to decrease the use of private vehicles on its campuses, reflecting its commitment to environmental sustainability and reducing traffic congestion.

  1. Restrictions on Student Vehicles:
    • Prohibition Policy: RMUTP prohibits students from driving their private cars onto university property. This policy is enforced to minimize traffic and parking congestion on campus.
  2. Limitations:
    • Parking Limitations: Parking spaces are reserved exclusively for faculty, staff, and visitors, which further discourages students from bringing private vehicles to campus.
  3. Promotion of Alternative Transportation:
    • Public Transportation: The university actively promotes the use of public transportation by providing accessible information about public transit options and encouraging their use through organized campaigns.
    • Carpooling Incentives: Initiatives to promote carpooling among faculty and staff are in place, including preferred parking for carpool vehicles and recognition programs for regular participants.

In addition, Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon (RMUTP) has actively announced a policy to reduce the use of private vehicles across its campuses, encouraging faculty members and students to primarily use public transportation. Additionally, the university mandates that all departments participate in promoting and organizing an annual “Car Free Day” event to support everyone in reducing car usage and turning to more environmentally friendly travel options.

These policies are widely disseminated across the university through various channels to ensure that all members of the community, from staff to students, are well-informed and encouraged to participate. The promotion is carried out via informational posters strategically placed around campus, through public announcements, and via the university’s official website. This multi-channel approach helps to maximize outreach and engagement, ensuring that the message of sustainability and reduced reliance on private vehicles is communicated effectively to everyone within the university community.

Pedestrian Path Policy on Campus

Pedestrian paths crosswalk and separate from road

Disabled-friendly features

Street ramps and CCTV

Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon (RMUTP) has developed a comprehensive Pedestrian Path Policy to ensure the safety, convenience, and accessibility of all individuals on campus, including those with disabilities.

  1. Clear Separation from Roadways: Pedestrian paths on campus are distinctly separated from roads used by vehicles. This separation is crucial for the safety of pedestrians and minimizes the risk of accidents.
  2. Disabled-Friendly Features:
    • Universal Ramps: Ramps are installed between buildings and along pedestrian paths, designed to accommodate wheelchairs and those with limited mobility, ensuring smooth and safe access across campus.
    • Accessible Crosswalks: Crosswalks are strategically placed and designed to be easily accessible, enhancing the mobility of all pedestrians, particularly those with special needs.
  3. Enhanced Safety Measures:
    • Street Lighting: Adequate lighting along the pedestrian pathways ensures visibility and safety during nighttime, providing a secure environment for evening activities.
    • CCTV Surveillance: A comprehensive network of CCTV cameras is installed along the pathways, enhancing security and monitoring to deter potential security threats and respond quickly to any incidents.
  4. Design for Convenience:
    • The design of the pathways considers the flow of foot traffic, the natural landscape, and the placement of campus buildings, making navigation straightforward and efficient for daily commuters and occasional visitors alike.

License plate recognition system

The systematic approach to developing and implementing the license tracking system for parking management at Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon (RMUTP) has laid a robust foundation for improving campus infrastructure and operational efficiency through the use of ICT:

  • Planning: The initial phase involved a thorough assessment of parking needs and the strategic placement of License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology. By using sophisticated software to analyze campus traffic patterns and parking demands, the university was able to design an effective system tailored to the specific needs of the campus community.
  • Implementation: Following the planning, the LPR system was deployed at critical access points around the campus. A dedicated application was developed and launched to provide real-time information on parking availability and violations. This phase was crucial in transitioning from traditional methods to a more streamlined, technology-driven approach.
  • Monitoring: The ongoing monitoring phase employs real-time tracking software to oversee the effectiveness of the parking management system. This technology not only tracks the occupancy of parking spaces but also helps in dynamically adjusting available spaces based on current demand and usage patterns.
  • Evaluation: The final stage involves a comprehensive evaluation of the system’s impact on campus parking management. Using advanced data analysis tools, the university assesses key performance metrics and collects feedback from users. This evaluation helps in identifying areas for improvement and validating the success of the system in enhancing parking policies and campus security.
