On June 20, 2025, Dr.Chalakorn Udomraksasakul, Director of Institute of Research and Development at Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon, represented the institution in receiving the Bronze Award, which included a trophy, certificate of honor, and a cash prize of 50,000 baht. The award was granted for the research project titled “Innovation of Sugarcane Leaf Fibers for Local Textile Products,” conducted by Asst. Prof. Dr.Sarun Jankaew and Assoc. Prof. Dr.Kittisak Ariyakuare, lecturers from the Textile Product Design Program, Faculty of Textile Industry and Fashion Design.

The award ceremony was part of the Thailand Research Expo 2025, with Prof. Dr.Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, presiding over the ceremony held at Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre, CentralWorld, Bangkok.

This project falls under the theme “Research and Innovation to Enhance the Potential of Community Enterprises and SMEs.” Its objective is to add value to agricultural waste materials such as sugarcane leaves, which are often burned before harvesting and cause environmental pollution. The research team developed a method to transform these leaves into natural fibers, which are then used to produce woven fabrics and textile products with unique identity. This aligns with the concepts of eco-efficiency and sustainable development.
