On April 10, 2025, Dr. Natworapol Rachsiriwatcharabul, President of Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon, presided over the opening of the third activity under the university’s “Tradition and Commemoration Program” “RMUTP Preserves Thai Songkran Traditions 2025”, held under the theme “Joyful Songkran Celebration with Alms in Tiffin Carriers”.
The event, held at D-Hall Auditorium, Thewet Campus, welcomed former university executives, the President of the Alumni Association, senior members of the RMUTP Club, faculty, staff, and students, all dressed in traditional Thai attire and floral shirts. The celebration began with a Buddhist ceremony featuring nine monks from Wat Rachathiwat Vihara, who performed chanting, received offerings, and conducted a merit-making ritual. Attendees presented tiffin carriers filled with food as alms.
This was followed by a water-pouring ceremony over sacred Buddha images and bronze statues of Prince Ratchaburi Direkrit and Admiral Prince Abhakara Kiartivongse, honoring Thai royal ancestors. The event concluded with the traditional Rod Nam Dam Hua ceremony — pouring water over the hands of elders to seek blessings.
In addition, there was a demonstration on how to craft traditional Thai offerings to elders in celebration of Songkran, emphasizing respect and gratitude.
The event reflected Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon’s commitment to its mission of preserving and promoting Thai arts and culture. It aimed to uphold the Songkran tradition, which marks the Thai New Year, while also recognizing Songkran as a day to honor the elderly. The university took this opportunity to express gratitude and respect to senior members who have dedicated their efforts to the university’s growth and development over the years.
